We could all use something to celebrate. Often times, if nothing else, you should celebrate your story. Each and every vaper that has quit or significantly reduced their smoking has something to celebrate. You should be proud of your accomplishment. And, you should tell others you are proud of it! You can say that ecigs have saved your life. You can say that ecigs have been a health benefit to you. You can say that ecigs have helped you quit smoking! We know that ecigs are orders of magnitude safer than traditional tobacco cigarettes. Not only because the science tells us, but because our hearts tell us that ecigs are safer than cigarettes.
Yesterday I noticed the three things I pushed in the community were all positive. And, I’ve had to check my phone at least every 5 minutes to clear out my Facebook notifications I had from shares, likes and comments. For the first time in my vape advocacy “career” I had a complete stranger from well outside my state contact me, asking how he can help out with advocacy. I quickly scrambled to find and link him to his state advocacy group, and made sure he could get in contact with another active advocate in his state. I also let him know that if there’s anything else I can help with to feel free to come to me for advice again.
With all of the “formalde-hype” going around, again it was easy to get upset with the situation. But, look at all the good that has come of it. Vapers banded together to debunk the science. There’s even a formaldehyde challenge on YouTube to prove the conditions that the scientists used in the study were unrealistic to actual ecig use. Will the media pick up on all of this? Probably not. But, your friends will see your positive stories. Your family will see your positive stories. Most importantly, your politicians should see your positive stories.
A simple Google search, for instance “Bemidji City Council” (My home town) will usually bring up a link to the list of city council members in your city. Click on that link and copy the email address for your representative. Spend 15 minutes to share a short version of your story and what regulations you feel would be appropriate and inappropriate for ecigarettes. This will have the greatest impact on ecig regulation in your area. A phone call to the same person can have just as great of an impact.
However in-depth you wish to spread the good news, do so now. “You only have one shot at your first wedding.” You must understand that we will not win every battle, however. Don’t let that get you down. We will takt will be our victory.
